Katrina Kaif today said she is personally “inspired” by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and would “jump at an opportunity” if offered to play her role in a film.

“I think what she (Sonia) has achieved is incredible. It is a great inspiration.”, the actress, in the city to promote her latest film Rajneeti, based on a political drama, and slated for release on June 4 told mediapersons today.

The model-turned actress, whose father is of Indian origin and mother a British, said Gandhi was an important person, and she would love to play her role. “I would jump at such an opportunity”, she said if offered to play her part.

Asked to name an ideal politician, she identified the Congress President, “but it is more as a woman and her life than a politician”, Katrina, who grew abroad and swept the Indian audience despite her smattering Hindi, said.

Katrina plays the role of Indu Sakseria in Rajneeti, whose personal happiness is dependent on changing electoral fortunes of her love and even a slight shift in the faultline of political negotiation would cause a devastating consequence in her personal life.

She rejected media speculation that her role in the film Rajneeti had resemblance to Gandhi.
The 25-year-old actress says she plays the role of a normal girl who is brash and spoilt and immature and goes through a journey in life where she is forced to grow up.

“Interested in politics, yes I am, but do I understand, no I don’t”, said the actress.
Politics she said was in some way like poverty. “You are interested, you wish you could do something about it, but dont know where to start”. “It was a world far beyond my comprehension”, she said adding that it needed to be “gifted” in this field to succeed.

On her Hindi, she said “I know I have an accent, but I am working on it and trying to improve on it in every film”.

She admitted she was more comfortable in English but was working “step by step” on her Hindi as well.
The actress did not appear apprehensive at all about her role in a political drama. She said that going by the success of her film New York, which she was initially apprehensive of, she was sure that her fans would accept her in such a role in the film Rajneeti.
